According to PAX we can learn some historic lessons from the Balkans for Ukraine today. One of them is to put citizens first, since they are ultimately the foundation of both peace and democracy.

Take a closer look at Eastern Slavonia in north-eastern Croatia in the late nineties for example. It is still an interesting case. Citizens’ interests played a key role there, in an international approach that made a fundamental difference. Eastern Slavonia is a small region that can easily be compared to Donbas in the eastern part of Ukraine.
