PAX supports call for release Sudanese political detainees

December 17, 2014

As PAX we support the urgent call for the immediate release of Dr. Amin Mekki Medani, Faroug Abueissa and all political detainees in Sudan.

Dr. Amin Mekki Medani is a highly respected Sudanese civil rights campaigner, lawyer and activist. On the 6th of December he was imprisoned along with other peaceful change agents by the Khartoum government for their efforts to build a shared vision – ‘The Sudan Call’ – among civil society and opposition for promoting conflict transformation and peaceful democratic transition in Sudan.

The Sudan Call
The Sudan Call is a political declaration signed in Addis Ababa on the 3rd of December 2014 between the National Consensus Forces, the Sudan Revolutionary Front, the National Umma Party and the civil society initiative, led by Dr. Amin Mekki Medani. It brought together all the opposition groups and the civil society in a coalition that demands: dissolving the one-party rule – which has lasted for 25 years now in Sudan – and establishing a transitional government mandated to lead a constitutional process and to prepare for national elections.

These men are over 70 years of age and work for peaceful change. They don’t belong in jail. Please take one minute to sign this petition.
