PAX means peace. Together with people in conflict areas and concerned citizens worldwide, PAX works to build dignified and peaceful societies across the globe. PAX brings together people who have the courage to stand for peace.

PAX's Killer Robots project works for an international treaty to prevent the development of killer robots, or lethal autonomous weapons. We are a co-founder of the international Campaign to Stop Killer Robots with members in over 100 countries. The project combines research, political lobby and public campaigning. Intern or volunteer for the Killer Robots project

This position is based within the Humanitarian Disarmament program at PAX. The intern/volunteer will be part of the Killer Robots project. PAX advocates a pre-emptive ban on the development, production and use of lethal autonomous weapons, or killer robots. PAX aims to achieve this through advocacy at the UN and in the Netherlands, through research publications and articles, and though organizing public events and campaigning. The intern/volunteer will assist in various aspects of the advocacy, research and campaigning work.

The ideal candidate profile

We are looking for a colleague with strong organizational skills and a hands-on attitude. You have a keen eye for detail and can work independently. You have a creative mind are not afraid to take initiative.


  • Support lobby and advocacy aimed at the Dutch parliament and government
  • Support outreach to the scientific community in the Netherlands
  • Support international lobby and advocacy around the Convention on Conventional Weapons
  • Write content for the website and produce creative content for social media, translate content from English to Dutch
  • Help setting up public events
  • General support for ongoing work of the Killer Robots team, including assisting with research

We are looking for  

  • HBO/ WO third year Bachelor or Master student
  • Good organizational and logistical skills and a great eye for detail
  • A good writer with affinity for social media and a creative mind
  • Excellent Dutch and English language skills

We offer

  • A unique experience working within a politically oriented, dynamic peace organization in Utrecht.
  • Purposeful internship guidance with an eye toward personal wishes and development.
  • Appointment in consultation from the beginning of September 2020 for a 3-4 month period.
  • Working hours in consultation, 3 or 4 days a week.
  • Travel expenses and internship remuneration up to a maximum of € 170, - per month based on fulltime working hours.
  • In addition to the internship experience, there is also room for personal development. Regular lunches are organized for volunteers/interns, and through meetings and other activities you can further explore the (international) peace work.
