PAX could not be happier that the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons has won the Nobel Peace Prize. PAX is one of the leading members of ICAN, and is a driving force behind the network.

In choosing ICAN, the Nobel Prize Committee is sending a powerful message that the only way to deal with the threat of nuclear weapons is to ban them outright. A comprehensive, global ban treaty is already in place, thanks in large part to ICAN. A treaty prohibiting all nuclear weapons was adopted by 122 countries at the United Nations in July, and 53 countries have already signed it. Ninety days after 50 countries have ratified it, the treaty will go into force.

PAX has worked to abolish nuclear weapons for decades, and was closely involved with making the ban treaty possible.
