In the period 1996-2006, the coal-rich Colombian department of Cesar was systematically terrorized by paramilitary violence. Hundreds of people disappeared, thousands were killed and tens of thousands displaced. To this day the area remains very unsafe for community leaders and social activists.
Cluster bombs have killed and injured thousands of civilians during the last 40 years and continue to do so today. Peace organisation PAX and the Cluster Munition Coalition want to stop investment in cluster munitions producers. We also call for national legislation to forbid investment in cluster munitions.
On 23 April 2013 peace organisation PAX together with eight other organizations, launched the international campaign to Stop Killer Robots. PAX is the Dutch coordinator of the Campaign.
