We operate in 15 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, (South-)Eastern Europe and Eurasia. We start up and support local peace initiatives and mobilise moral, political and financial support for these in our own society.
From the beginning of 2014, PAX has been following closely as events unfolded in Ukraine. During two scoping missions (in May and in September), PAX spoke to over 60 interlocutors from civil society, local authorities and administrations, and churches.
PAX has been working in the Middle East since the 1990s. Since 2000, its focus has been on local civil society and individual activists who can play a role in social and political changes in the region.
In Africa, peace organisation PAX works in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and the borderlands with Uganda and Kenya. Our programmes in Africa focus on encouraging dialogue between ethnic groups, and between citizens and their governments.
In Colombia PAX works on peace and security. We also call for democratic participation by all layers of the Colombian population in deciding about matters that affect them, such as the arrival of mining companies
In the Balkans PAX works with local partners on inter-group dialogue and on strengthening local governance. In all programmes, we combine community work with advocacy.
From the early 1990s up to 2014, PAX was active in the South Caucasus, supporting populations searching for non-violent solutions to the conflicts around Nagorno Karabakh, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
In the Netherlands, peace organisation PAX works on peace and security. We involve citizens in our native land in our work in areas in conflict by setting up a series of campaigns in the Netherlands, the high point being the annual peace week. In addition, we endeavour to exercise influence on political policy.
