20-01-2012The meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Affairs to be held in Brussels on 23 January will discuss the current situation in Syria and further steps of the European Union. The safety of civilians in large areas of the country is under serious threat. A further militarization of the conflict in Syria is an imminent threat. In light of this situation, IKV Pax Christi is of the opinion that the EU should focus on two main issues.
Prospects for a way out of the violence in Syria
24-11-2011Eight months after the Syrian people decided to struggle for freedom and reclaim their human dignity, the situation on the ground has changed dramatically. The scenario of peaceful transition has disappeared in the midst of the massive violence on the ground. The only hope on the table for a political way out is the Arab League plan.

04-10-2011After 6 months, the popular uprising in Syria, that started in March 2011 has reached a new phase this week as a result of the establishment of a Syrian National Council. This could be a breakthrough in the formation of a united opposition inside and outside Syria. IKV Pax Christi calls on the EU to welcome the establishment of the SNC and take necessary steps for the protection of civilians.
