PAX proud member of Peace Prize winner ICAN

October 6, 2017

PAX could not be happier that the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons has won the Nobel Peace Prize. PAX is one of the leading members of ICAN, and is a driving force behind the network.

In choosing ICAN, the Nobel Prize Committee is sending a powerful message that the only way to deal with the threat of nuclear weapons is to ban them outright. A comprehensive, global ban treaty is already in place, thanks in large part to ICAN. A treaty prohibiting all nuclear weapons was adopted by 122 countries at the United Nations in July, and 53 countries have already signed it. After 50 countries have ratified it, the treaty will go into force.

PAX has worked to abolish nuclear weapons for decades, and continues to call on the Dutch government to join the treaty and significantly commit to a nuclear weapons free world.
