Save the ceasefire in Syria

PAX and a number of Syrian partner organisations are calling on the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) to establish a lasting ceasefire, in part by preventing military aircraft from flying over civilian areas of the country.

The ISSG met yesterday evening after the UN Security Council met earlier in the day to discuss Syria.

PAX and 23 other organizations believe a lasting ceasefire is still possible, so long as certain conditions are met. For instance, the ceasefire agreement needs to be made public so that it can be independently monitored. Breaches of the ceasefire must have real consequences. In addition, all sieges must be lifted immediately and without conditions, prisoners must be released, and those responsible for war crimes, such as the attack on the aid convoy earlier this week, must be punished.

This is the letter PAX sent to the ISSG.
